Leaving Swansea at 6am to get to Wrexham by 11am would be pretty unusual for most Swans fans, but not if you’re a member of the Jackarmy.net Supporter’s Team. Early starts have been the norm for these lads this season as they’ve travelled the length and breadth of the country to take on our counterparts in places such as Wrexham, Shrewsbury and Oxford.

The Jackarmy.net Supporter’s Team was formed in June 2002 by the users of the Swans supporters’ website www.jackarmy.net and as it approaches its first birthday, it can look back on a pretty eventful 12 months. The team was initially formed after a challenge was laid down by our rivals at Cardiff City to play two games over the summer break. The jackarmy lads took on their counterparts at sleepinggiant.com over two games in the summer of 2002. The first leg took place at the Morfa stadium, with the prize being the inaugural Harry Griffiths Memorial Trophy. The jackarmy boys ran out 4-1 winners that day and then repeated the performance 2 weeks later, returning from Cardiff with the Billy Ayre Trophy after a 4-0 victory. If victory over our rivals wasn’t sweet enough, there was also the honour of having both trophies presented to the team by Swans legend John Toshack before the opening game of the season against Rushden. Both trophies now take pride of place in the Harry Griffiths bar behind the Centre stand.

Although football is an integral part of the whole jackarmy.net set-up, it’s not just about playing matches. The main aim of the Supporter’s Team is to build bridges with rival fans from all over the country and many friendships have been made. As well as the actual games, each event is turned into a social occasion with both sets of fans having the opportunity to get together post-match and share a drink or three!!! Close bonds have been formed with supporters from Cardiff, Wrexham, Oxford, Shrewsbury and even Liverpool.

The end of the Nationwide League season will see a flurry of activity in the jackarmy.net camp, as the lads prepare to defend their two trophies against Cardiff in the summer. There is also the small matter of a trip to Liverpool to take on our first Premiership opposition and a possible giant killing!!! But the game that has most of the jackarmy.net lads talking is a match against an Alan Curtis All-Star XI. This game is scheduled to take place on the evening of Friday May 9th. Not only will it be a great honour to take on Curt and a number of ex-Swansea hero’s, but the fact that the game will be played at the Vetch is just reward for all the hard work put in by the jackarmy.net team over the last 12 months.

When the lads run out at the Vetch Field to take on Curt’s All-Stars, they will be wearing the new Swans all black away strip which has been donated to the team by Bergoni. Bergoni’s Steve Thornton was on hand this week to present the new strip to the team at the Vetch.

Full details of the game against the Alan Curtis All-Star XI will appear on www.jackarmy.net. If you would like to be part of the Jackarmy.net Supporter’s Team, e-mail Stephen “Reeco” Rees at reeco1@ntlworld.com Jackarmy.net would like to thank the Board and Directors of Swansea City Football Club, Steve Thornton and all the staff at Bergoni and all the other sponsors and supporters who have made this all possible.
