Support The Festival Of Football

I was contacted earlier today by Colin Jones from the Vetch who asked if JackArmy.net would be interested in supporting this event. And of course, JackArmy.net does not stop at me, it continues all the way to the 1100+ people who log onto the web-site every day. After discussion with Colin I said that I am sure the regular readers of the web-site will be interested in helping the youngsters in this and that we will give you the chance to show your support for the event.

I’ll let Colin tell you a bit more about the event. “Basically, teams in the age group of 9,10 and 11 year olds will take part in the festival of football. Ovfer 500 youngsters will be present on the day together with their families and, although this is the inaugral tournament, we hope to make this an annual event. Next season we will also be looking to include the other age groups at the Vetch (12,13,14 and 15 year olds) in it. The emphasis of the day will be on fun and entertainment and all the games will be refereed by the young scholars at the Vetch.”

But what exactly are we looking for? Well, Colin has options open to us to support the event – around ร‚ยฃ100 to sponsor one of the age groups or around ร‚ยฃ500 to sponsor the whole event. That is the totals but I have a more simplistic viewpoint in that whatever we can raise then if it helps the future of the club then it can only be a good thing. So I am asking for you to donate whatever you feel you can afford into this fund – be it ร‚ยฃ5 or ร‚ยฃ500. All I ask is that if you want to donate you

a. complete the form below so that I have an idea of what pledges we have

b. Send the cheque ASAP bearing in mind the short timescale we are working on here. For ease all cheques will come through me and I will pass the total on as one payment from ‘the readers of www.jackarmy.net

To kick the fund off I spoke to long serving Swansea goalkeeper Roger Freestone this afternoon and he immediately pledged ร‚ยฃ50 to the cause. “These children are the future of our football club. Over the past few years we have seen players rise through the ranks to be first team players at the club and this is something we should look to continue with. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than in 10 years to see some of the children at this festival turning out at the Morfa in front of a huge crowd. In supporting an event like this then all we will be doing is increasing the chance of that happening. In the day and age when you see sides spending big to build their teams it is easy to forget that there are youngsters on our own doorstep that could be just as good.”

My viewpoint on this is that if it is good enough for Roger to support then it is good enough for me so I add a further ร‚ยฃ25 to that total. So already we have ร‚ยฃ75 towards the total.

What if we go over what is needed? Again, in simple terms then good. If that were to happen then I suggest very easily that all surplus funds, big or small go into helping the centre of excellence at the Vetch in whatever way it can?

I do appreciate that with the recently launched Battle for Britton campaign and the new season, money may be tight but if you can’t afford to give that is fine. There is no pressure. If you can then I join Swansea City in thanking you.

TOGETHER WE CAN BUILD A BETTER FUTURE.
