I’m amazed it must have been three weeks now since the last rumour concerning Lee Trundle but wham there it was when I got back tonight – this time it’s Leicester City and the figure quoted is £400,000 according to some wag on their local radio who heard it clearly on a different Sky Sports to the one that the rest of us watch.
If Cardiff City had £1,000,000 for every time Lee Trundle has been linked with another club since he arrived at the Vetch less than two years ago they would be out of debt by now such is the popularity of the twenty goal striker.
It is easy to see why he was named as the best player in the division by Four Four Two magazine when you realise that when higher division clubs are looking for a striker it is the name of Trundle that seems to be linked. It is also testament to the way that he has worked his way onto the football stage that people want to link their club to him.
But we also know that there is no way Trundle will be allowed to leave for that kind of money especially as it has been publicly stated beforehand. What is Trundle’s worth to the club is very difficult to put a kind of figure on. I know of many people that turn up because they want to watch him and there have been numerous reports of him taking time out to watch local kids playing football. The club will also be well aware that he is responsible for around 40% of the goals that we have scored in the league this season – real reason why we should get rid of him eh?
So which club can we be expected to be linked with Trundle in the next ten days before the transfer deadline? Surely there must be another one or two media outlets that fancy making the statements but maybe this time they would like to wait for the club to make contact before they bother publicising the fact or is that just something that is a triviality.
I actually now take the time to look forward to the next Trundle rumour – interested to see who is going to be next. I stifle a laugh when Trundle is linked for £400k yet the ginger one from Cardiff is bid for at £350k! But that’s football and who would change it – it’s a compliment in a way that we have a player that can attract the speculation and no doubt with some of them there may even be an interest.
But let’s remember that he is ours and it’s great to see that the mass hysteria that used to greet these rumours has now stopped and people see them for the shoddy journalism that they really are.
