Win Or Bust

Nothing short of a win will do for the Swans tomorrow night as they start their Easter programme with a home game against Macclesfield. After a dismal two months that has seen them drop from the top three of the division with some force, it is the form team from the bunch in Macclesfield that provide the chance for Swansea to start an eight game streak that could lead them to promotion.

It’s hard to believe after failing against so many in recent weeks but a win tomorrow could see the Swans within one point of the top three and right back in contention. The game against Macclesfield looks on paper to be the toughest challenge of the remaining 8 and three points could prove a springboard for the games to come.

Tickets have sold well throughout the week and most of the seated areas of the ground are close to being sold out before kick off whilst less than 4000 spaces are available on the terrace for pay on the night customers. Macclesfield for their own part are expected to bring anywhere up to 400 supporters to the Vetch knowing that anything other than defeat for them could mean another one out of the running for auto promotion as far as they are concerned.

Brian Horton’s side have picked up 25 points out of the last 30 available compared to just 10 coming the Swans way during the same timescale. Current form suggests there could be an unlikely championship heading to Moss Rose and not just promotion but as we know all to well, getting into contention is one thing, staying in contention is a completely different scenario.

No new arrivals at the Vetch this week as the transfer deadline passed and there are also injury worries ahead of the game over Adrian Forbes, Marcus Bean and Paul Connor. Sam Ricketts is a definite absentee as he prepares for his competitive international debut against Austria on the weekend.

Lee Trundle will lead the line after reaching the 20 goal milestone in the league last week – the first Swan to do so for over 20 years – and if Connor is unfit to play then Lee Thorpe will come into the team alongside him. With Forbes and Bean struggling, Leon Britton, Andy Robinson and Roberto Martinez will all vie for a starting place.

Danny Swailes will not be in action for Macc after he was carried off last weekend. Kevin Towson was their arrival on deadline day and he will go straight into the squad for the game.

This is the penultimate friday night match at the Vetch and it needs to be a cracking atmosphere with hopefully the crowd lifting the players and vice versa for a game that we simply must win. Anything other than that and people who believe we will go up automatically will be few and far between.

It’s make or break………
