Sam’s Competitive Debut For Wales

After a cap in last month’s friendly win over Hungary, Sam Ricketts became the first Swansea player this century to be capped in a competitive fixture at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon.

Playing in front of a 50,000 plus crowd, there was little joy for Sam though as Wales extended their dismal competitive record to 11 without a win as two late Austrian goals gave them a 2-0 victory.

Couple that with just one win in World Cup qualifying in the past ten years and the size of the job facing John Toshack becomes more evident week by week.
