It’s Our Destiny?

And so, here we are. Two years to the date since that momentus occasion against Hull City at the Vetch. And as the date passes, we are preparing from the biggest game that the club has faced since. A game that could shape our future.

Backed by an army believed to be fast approaching 5,000 Jacks in the North West, the Swans will look for a first win at Gigg Lane since 1978, and a win that, other results permitting, will see the travelling army celebrating promotion come 5 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Early voting in the current poll on the site shows that the majority (75%) think we will do the business on the pitch leaving us in the hands of Grimsby, Shrewsbury and possibly even Lincoln to get what we want.

For weeks we have heard via the local press (and the Western Mail!) that we can do it, we want to do it, and we will do it but now the time for words has ended and it is time to ENSURE that we do it.

This is now a cup final. Win and the prize could well be ours – lose and it will take something spectacular to take the prize (well that and the play offs) We HAVE to win on Saturday, even if it ends up as just a confidence boost ahead of the play offs.

Swansea City is a proud club. Last week, the players saw first hand what it meant to the club when over 11,000 paid homage to the Vetch Field. The sea of white as the players returned to the directors box should have told them that the passion was there. And from that passion, they should be drawing their inspirations for Saturday.

They will have heard the reception that greeted the Vetch legends before the game on Saturday. These people gave it all for the shirt and this is what we need on Saturday. The sound from the terraces says “Swansea Till I Die” and every single person wanting the Swans to win on Saturday should have that ringing in their ears. From management through coaching staff, players and fans, it means so much to us.

It’s been said that the Swans are too big to be in this division. We have to prove it. If we don’t make it then clearly we are not too big to be here. But backed by an average attendance of just short of 8,500 we should be too big and the players should see that and go for it. For those about which it has been said they will excel at a higher level then get us there. Then you can excel at that level. You are one game away from getting there, we have to do it.

There cannot be nerves. There cannot be sitting back. We have this chance to seal our own fate and not subject ourselves to the lottery that is the play off. We have to walk away from Gigg Lane on Saturday knowing that we have given everything and not a single thought of “if only we’d done this”

Our destiny is there. Nine months of work have got us to where we are, 90 minutes of sheer effort could be the bit that pushes us over the finishing line.

And if that isn’t enough to be convincing then it’s a simple choice

NOTTINGHAM FOREST and SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

or

BARNET AND RUSHDEN?

WE CAN DO IT

WE HAVE TO DO IT

WE WILL DO IT

Give it everything.
