Full Of Surprises

I’m sure that most will agree with me when I say that one of those transfer listings is of no surprise. To be honest, such has been the anonymity of Fisken since he arrived, I was almost surprised to find out he was still here. He was bought in last summer and we have seen so little of him we have to wonder why he was added in the first place. Whether there will be any takers or not remains to be seen but it is difficult to believe he will remain in the football league but time will tell.

The other two changes are somewhat of a surprise I have to say. Alan Curtis is a Swansea legend – we all know that – and I should add at this point that I am not advocating keeping him purely for that reason. A legend or not to have to prove your worth to the football club. It’s very easy at this stage to point to the lack of players coming through the youth set up as many people have done. However, I would add that in the absence of any serious investment in this department, Curt has had a nigh on impossible task to generate any talent through there – maybe I could even go so far as saying that it is almost a miracle that we have what we have which in reality now boils down to Pritch and Chad Bond. That aside, it is clear that Kenny wants his own staff in there and as we have been told so often – footballing decisions come down to him.

I do hope though that we retain the services of Curt in some way. 30 years deserves some kind of position within the club and if the rumours are correct and he will be working in hospitality at the new stadium then I hope he sees to accept that – Curt and Swansea City go hand in hand.

I am even more mystified by the decision to transfer list Andy Gurney. I would have nailed money on him remaining for next season as one of the few players in our squad with League One experience. How much of this decision is down to his ‘spats’ with various people we will never know but personally I would have kept him. Gurney though did become a target for abuse at the Vetch and there is no doubt that his performances went down in quality when people started getting on his back. There is also no doubt in my mind that someone will snap him up and very possibly we could see him at White Rock next season but in an opposition shirt.

However, what the events of the past two days have shown is that we are prepared to make decisions that Kenny feels will benefit us. Only the long term will answer the question of how they have helped us but in the meantime, we sit back and watch until we see what happens next in the Swansea City soap opera.

It could be an interesting summer…….
