Blast From The Past – Bob Latchford

Bob Latchford joined the Swans at a key point in the club’s history in 1981, making his league debut against Leeds United in our first ever game in the top flight. And what a debut it was!

Three goals in the 5-1 thrashing of Leeds United, signalling to the big boys of Division 1 that Swansea City were going to compete with the very best in British football. The signing of the former England international, who had delivered on the big stage with both Birmingham City and Everton, was a statement of intent that the club had real ambition.

In 87 appearances for the Swans, he scored 35 goals, a strike rate that is by far the best of any Swans player in history – and he did this against the best defenders in the country. Bob is a true Swans legend, even if his stay was short lived.
