It’s only just over five weeks until the official opening of White Rock Stadium but today it has become the stadium without a chief executive after Tim Howells suddenly left for ‘different challenges’

A statement from the council said that Howells had simply completed the job that he was employed to do and would now move onto other things. But let’s also remember that this is the same department that told us White Rock was only a temporary name just a few weeks after they proudly displayed the name on road signs around the stadium. Hardly stuff that makes you want to believe what is being said is it?

Mr Howell, who quit his job at the Glamorgan Health and Racquet Club at Llandarcy to take over at Morfa, also refused to go into any detail. He said: ” Being chief executive of the new stadium during this critical phase has been a fantastic and extremely rewarding challenge. “The new stadium is now more than capable of establishing itself as one of the best stadiums in the UK and the leading sporting, entertainment and cultural venue in South West Wales. “With my task now successfully completed, I feel it’s now time to take on a new, equally rewarding challenge.” Swansea Stadium Management Company chairman, Councillor Gerald Clement, said: “Tim’s done a superb job and will be sorely missed, however we fully understand that this is the time for him to move on to other challenges elsewhere. “We will continue to build on the great start given to this stadium through Tim’s hard work. “The new stadium remains on course to give a massive boost to the profile of our city and our winning football and rugby teams as they enter their new season of sporting success.”

However, a post on the message board earlier today suggested that Mr Howells had been made the scapegoat in a dispute between the Swans and the Ospreys over some form of the stadium running and therefore was removed from his post. Certainly the two quotes above, taken from tonight’s Evening Post, suggest that they are well manufactured words but in reality meaningless in the long run.

This of course is backed up by the EP reporting that PR publicity material about Mr Howells and his staff being issued just 24 hours ago. Hmmm, now then does this sound any different to the road signs mentioned above?

Whatever the reasons thought it does mean that the stadium now finds itself without it’s captain five weeks before it’s grand opening and the taxpayers who paid for it being treated like mushrooms. No stadium name – well we have one in White Rock – and no chief executive – why is nothing simple?
