Blast From The Past – Paul Raynor |
Paul Raynor started his playing career as an apprentice for Notts Forest in the early 80’s. He was then loaned out to Brizzle Rovers before making a permanent move to Huddersfield. Then in 1987, we snapped him up on a free and he began his illustrious career with the Swans. In all, he played over 200 times for Swansea City, between 1987 and 1992. Raynor’s favoured position was in midfield, but Im pretty sure he played up front for us a few times. I do seem to recall he was our preferred penalty taker (missing one against Grimsby in a rather boring 0-0 sticks in my mind). I’ll always remember him for his impressive 70’s porn staresque moustache, which I believe he still sports to this day! Raynor went on to play for the likes of Cambridge, Preston, Leyton Orient and the mighty Ilkeston Town! Believe it or not, Raynor still plys his trade in the football league with League Two minnows Boston United.
