Merry Xmas Mr Craney

Accrington Stanley. Who are they? That was the strapline from a milk commercial that some of the older of us may remember. And whilst that is not the question being asked by new Swans signing Ian Craney he does feel as if Christmas has come early following his move to the Liberty Stadium yesterday.

“I feel like a kid at Christmas. Coming to Swansea is a great opportunity for me and I’m absolutely over the moon.” he told the Evening Post “I got promoted into the Football League with Accrington last season and now I want more success at Swansea.

“I was aware that a few clubs were watching me but it wasn’t until Tuesday night that I found out Swansea wanted me,” he added. “I came down on Wednesday and knew as soon as I walked through the door that it was the right club for me. Hopefully I’ll make my debut against Bristol City on Sunday. What a game that will be to come into.”

And Kenny Jackett is full of praise for his new signing “He has a good goalscoring record from both positions, is a ball player and also has a strong physique. At 24, I feel he is one for the future. “He has come up the hard way through non-league football and has only been a league player for the last few months. “But (chief scout) Kevin Reeves has watched him with myself and we’re pleased to add him to our squad. “He has a lot of hunger and desire and will be looking to improve with us. That’s something I like in a player.”

Craney is almost certain to slot into the Swansea midfield for Sunday’s derby against Bristol City which should prove to be a suitable opening for the new boy!!
