You can pretty much say with some safeness that when the draw was made for the FA Cup First Round the name of Guillem Bauza was not etched on the minds of too many Swans fans as the likely hero to send us into Round Two.
And having been re-christened Gwillym Bauza on Saturday by some in the travelling support this morning he wakes up having grabbed two goals which saved the Swans blushes in the early kick off on Saturday. Two strikes in the second half were enough to make Swansea the first side definitely into the second round where they will play Horsham away.
With Warren Feeney suspended and Jason Scotland rested Bauza came into the side to partner Darryl Duffy up front having played less than 10 minutes in the league all season. It wasn’t his first Swansea goal – he grabbed one against Wycombe in the JPT last month but these were the ones that meant more as he added numbers 2 and 3 to a fledgling Swansea career.
Speaking after the game, Bauza told the Western Mail of his family’s celebrations back home in Spain following his double “They will go to the beach to celebrate
“I could not use my phone before the match to tell them I was playing, but they are all waiting for my news and I hope they will see it on the website. They know I’m not having a very good time at the moment as I’m not playing in the first team.
“But they’re going to be proud that I’ve done well and happy knowing that things are getting better for me.
“Every day I’m training or playing a match I’m getting better and getting used to the contact,” he said.
“I think I’m ready to play but every day you have to learn and keep progressing and improving. I want to do that all my football life.
“You want to show the manager how good you are all the time and what you can give to the team.
“But when it is an official match, and the manager shows confidence in you, then you want to do something in a big game.”
