Rangel Not Getting Carried Away

The Spanish defender was part of the Terrassa FC side that last season threw away a twelve point advantage with just twelve games to go to finish incredibly in seventh place.ย  And whilst there is nothing to suggest the Swans will do the same, there was nothing at that stage twelve months back to suggest that Terrassa would lose 10 of those 12 games.

The Swans have the chance to move fourteen points clear at the top this evening with a victory over Luton and, should that happen, you would be forgiven for thinking that you could hear the fat lady clearing her throat in preparation for song.ย  Just fourteen games will remain after tonight’s game and, with victory behind them, the Swans will have passed the 70-point barrier all before the shortest month has been completed.

But Rangel is very wary of getting too carried away before the job is done and told the Western Mail โ€œLast year I was in exactly the same situation, but unfortunately we didnโ€™t get promoted.

โ€œBut I think at Swansea we have stronger characters with a winning mentality who are desperate to get promotion.

โ€œAt Terrassa we were an old team with a lot of old players who were not as in good shape as Swansea are now.

โ€œTo keep it going right until the end of the season you need very good physios and medical staff to make sure the players are in peak condition.

โ€œWeโ€™ve had some positive results, but we havenโ€™t won anything yet, beating Luton would be a big step towards promotion, especially if the other teams around us donโ€™t win.

โ€œIn 2008 weโ€™ve been unbeaten in the league and at the Liberty we are winning every game, so I think we are capable of beating Luton.

โ€œItโ€™s been nice not to have any injuries and have the full confidence of the gaffer. All the players help each other out and thatโ€™s good for me,โ€ he said.

โ€œI am proud. I never expected that to happen when I first came to Swansea, but everyone has been great with me since day one.

โ€œNow is the most difficult part of the season, so I will continue to give 100 per cent and I hope to play every game until the end of the season.

โ€œDuring every game the fans have been amazing whether we are winning or losing, they always give the team so much support and I hope they continue that until the end of the season.

โ€œEveryone knows there is a long way to go, we probably need eight wins out of the final 14 games to be promoted. But we will try and win every single game.

โ€œIn the last third of the season every team needs the points to try and get promoted or to avoid falling into the relegation zone, so the pressure is not on us because we are winning and picking up lots of points.

โ€œWe are very relaxed on the pitch and every player is full of confidence โ€“ it would be amazing for every player if we could get promoted.โ€
