Monk has missed the Swans last three games with a back problem and it was hoped that he would finally make his return at Sixfields on Saturday but manager Roberto Martinez told the club's official website ""Garry has not advanced as we thought,'' confirmed Roberto. "We thought he would be available again, but he has suffered a reaction to the disc that is giving him problems.
"His back is just not ready, so we will have to be patient. Obviously he is disappointed, but he is still around the place and a big influence off the pitch.''
However, there was good news with the revelation that Marcos Painter will return for the weekend clash with Northampton having been injured since the second leg of the JPT area final against MK Dons. He should resume in defence ahead of Kevin Austin with the Swans starting to look much nearer full strength
"It's been a really frustrating three weeks,'' admitted Painter. "No player likes being injured and have to go through the full rehab programme. But I've kept my head down and worked hard to get back. As quick as I can.
"I know a few of the results haven't gone our way, but I think the boys at the back have done well.
"Obviously I'd love to get my chance again, but I'm not expecting to go straight back in. If I do, then it will be a bonus.''
Swansea fans can now pay on the day at Sixfields with around 1000 Swans fans expected to make the trip.
