Leighton James Backs Scotland

James uses this week's Evening Post column to talk up the striker whose double on Monday night took his season's tally to 28 for the season in all competitions and 23 in the league alone.   It does seem incredible that with that kind of tally in the bag he is still getting criticism from the supporters but then again, as Roberto said yesterday, he isn't Lee Trundle.

And now it is Leighton James who is adding to the calls to give the man the credit he deserves when he writes "The jury has been out on the lad for some reason, but his scoring record speaks for itself.

"His goals have proved vital for Swansea as they march towards the Championship.

"Jason arrived in the summer as a replacement for Lee Trundle.

"His main objective was to score goals. He's done that with distinction and for £25,000 he has proved a real bargain. I reckon he's worth £250,000 now.

"Some people question his work ethic, but I ask this: Would you want him running around like a headless chicken and appearing on the wings while he could be in the box doing what he does best?

"His phenomenal scoring rate has been a real bonus and I think he's a contender for player of the season.

"His agent came out last week and pleaded with the Swans supporters to show their support for Jason and start singing songs about him.

"It shows that the issue has been playing on the lad's mind and the reaction from his team-mates after Monday's late equaliser against Bristol Rovers was evidence of that.

"Jason is approaching 30 goals for the season and I think he is capable of making the 35 mark."
