Liverpool Rest Sees Anderson Return?

On loan Liverpool winger has been – bar a 60 second cameo against MK Dons – missing since the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest at the end of January whilst both Monk and Painter have been long term absentees as the Swans have suffered a little wobble that has seen their lead cut to five points.

But with the finishing line in sight for the Swans – four wins is the current mathematical requirement – the news is a welcome boost on the day that the loan window slams shut for the rest of the season.

There may still prove to be additions at the Liberty today but with the trip set to return from injury it is almost like new additions to the squad for Roberto Martinez.

Speaking in today's Evening Post he said "Garry and Marcos are progressing very well and that will boost our defensive options," said Martinez, whose side travel to Hartlepool on Saturday.

"Paul went back to Liverpool for treatment and also to spend some time with his family which has really benefited him.

"He gives us great strength and pace down the wings and he has also provided a lot of goals, so he is important to us.

"So with those players on their way back I think it is very important that I consider my squad before looking at any other player.

"It would be very disrespectful if I brought another player in without looking at every option we have in the squad.

"For every position we have healthy competition and that has been vital for us this season.

"The players are working hard on a daily basis to earn the right to wear the shirt and that has helped us progress this season."

The manager was also being very coy on whether there would be additions to the squad "We are not a club that creates a squad with a chequebook," said the Spaniard.

"With the position we are in we are an attractive club, and we are in this position because of the players that are in this current squad.

"But I would not rule anything out before the deadline."

Although in fairness Chairman Huw Jenkins seemed to suggest yesterday that movement was more than likely "Ashley Williams is one of a number of players we're watching, mainly with a view to strengthening the squad in the summer

"The main thing we're doing now is looking at various options to change things round a little bit in the close season and we've spoken to a lot of clubs about players who may or may not be available.

"But in the short term Roberto is looking to bring someone in before the deadline to cover for injuries, because we currently have two in the back-four.

"I'd say it's highly unlikely to be Ashley Williams, but we'd like to get someone in.

"Whether we manage that depends on other clubs, because it's not easy to get players out at this time of year when everybody is fighting against relegation or for promotion."
