The Swans stand just one victory away from that achievement although any defeat for Carlisle in the last three weeks of the season will see the Championship trophy heading for the Liberty Stadium.
And that feat is the minimum that the Swans deserve is the view of goalkeeper Dorus De Vries who has been an ever present in the Swans march to promotion from League One.
“I know promotion is a big achievement for this club,” said de Vries. “But now I think we could become only the fourth team in the club’s history to become league champions.
“We want to go in the history books. I think this team deserves that.
“It’s a great bunch of guys and we have given up so much in the last 10 months just to focus on promotion and winning the league. Now it has finally paid off.
“It is unbelievable and I can’t tell you how happy I am. We’ve been working so hard for this over the last 10 months. It is a brilliant experience and a major highlight of my career.
“There have been some ups and downs but mostly ups. So it has been a great season but we have to finish it off as champions.”
The Swans get the first chance to ensure that that happens when Yeovil arrive at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday and a near sell out crowd is anticipated to welcome the conquering heroes home.
