Roberts Hails Swindon Bound Amankwaah

Roberts played with Amankwaah at Bristol City between 2002 and 2004 and he is looking forward to possibly being reunited with the player who has been in talks with Swindon.

Swindon have lost their current right back – Miguel Comminges – to Cardiff City this summer but Roberts believes that his replacement will more than fill the void left by their player of the year.

"Kevin is a very good player. He is really energetic, very fit, and can get up and down the flank. I have no doubt he would be a great addition." said Roberts

"I know the fans are upset about losing Miguel and it is a shame he is leaving.

"But in all honesty I believe Kevin Amankwaah is a more structured and more powerful player.

"With Miguel there was always the possibility he was going to do something crazy. Because he was foreign sometimes he was caught out of position and could sometimes try and smash the ball across the face of goal.

"Kevin Amankwaah would not do crazy things. He can play anywhere on the right flank and is an experienced player."

Amankwaah has been a Liberty flop in his two seasons at Swansea but that does not put off Roberts

"That does not mean anything," said Roberts. "I remember when I joined Bristol City he had just had his car accident and was in a neck brace.

"He was very, very highly rated at Bristol City though. He was expected to go on to bigger things but then he was unfortunate to have his crash. I think a few big clubs were sniffing around at the time.

"Sometimes when you move clubs things don't work out straight away. Look at me, I joined Swindon then I had a crash, got injured, and lost my head. It didn't work for Kevin at Swansea but why not at Swindon?

"I think he just needs a fresh start.

"It is important to remember we also have Jack Smith as an option at right back and he is Mr Reliable."

The Swindon Evening Advertiser reports terms have been agreed between club and player.
