Monk Signs Two Year Deal To Stay A Jack

Monk was outstanding at the heart of defence last season as he led his side to the League One title and in the process he triggered a one year extension to his contract along the way.  But the Swans were always keen to extend that even further although there had been fears that there would be offers from elsewhere that could turn Monk's head.

But he put those fears to bed and said they were never an issue by signing his new deal making it a hat trick of good news stories for the Swans on the back of the signings of Gorka Pintado and Jordi Gomez earlier in the week.

Monk, players player of the year last season said "Winning promotion was a bonus but even if we didn't go up I would've still signed as I enjoy it here, I don't want to be anywhere else.

"I didn't even speak to any other clubs, this club is going places.

"It is disappointing to lose Robbo and maybe Ferrie," acknowledged Monk.

"Both were a very big infuence for our team and gave us an edge but money talks.

"The manager would have prepared for this and such coming and goings are the same at any football club in the land."
