Martinez was seemingly third favourite for the job last week behind Sam Allardyce and Paul Ince but he says that he has no plans or desire to leave the Liberty Stadium after guiding them into the Championship for the first time since 1984.
Martinez has only been in charge at Swansea since February 2007 but in that time he has grown a considerable reputation with three manager of the month awards last season to go with his manager of the year and League One winners medal. His ability to get the best out of his players has not gone unnoticed in football circles and you can bet that his name will be linked with more than one job over the next twelve months.
But he has put Swans fans minds at rest by saying that he has no plans to leave Swansea and has a job that needs completing here. Speaking in today's Wales on Sunday, Roberto said “I don’t have any intention of leaving
“My aim is to get Swansea City to the Premiership, not manage a different club there.
“That’s all I want, all the fans want and all the board wants. Until one of those three parties feels different, I will be here.
“It’s flattering but I’m far too busy planning for next season with Swansea to pay any attention to it.
“These things can only be distractions for managers and I am just concentrating on doing the best I can in the Championship.
“It’s a big compliment for Swansea City and that is the only way I see it. I always take such comments on behalf of the club.
“It is always a positive for us when these situations arise. It just shows how impressed people were with the way we won League One last year.
“But there is still work to be done here and I won’t lose focus on that.
“We are going to keep getting better and, if I was to take anything from this on a personal level, it is that I am obviously doing something right here.
“It gives me more confidence to persevere with my approach to the game.
“A lot of things have changed at this club but it is working.”
