Monk Eyes Cardiff City Victory

The Swans will travel to Ninian Park for the first time in the league since 1999 a week before Easter next year to try and gain a victory over their local rivals – the two sides are also scheduled to meet at the Liberty on November 29.

The two fixtures were some of the ones most eagerly anticipated by fans of both sides and it appears that the players are no different as they set about digesting the trips this season to the likes of The Valley, St Andrews and Carrow Road as they contemplate a first season at this level since 1984.

And despite some of those daunting trips Monk believes the Swans have nothing to lose "We really haven't got anything to fear. We are going to be pretty small fish in this league and probably the underdog in most of these games. " he told BBC Sport

"We are going to have to use that to our advantage."

And he is looking forward to the return of the south Wales derbies against Cardiff City.

"It's a really important game for the club and we understand everything that goes along with it, and the players don't want to lose either," he said.

"Out of the two games, I'm really looking forward to the game down there.

"It's always nice if you can beat your rivals on their own patch."
