The opponents are probably two of the names that people will scan the lists for come 10am today – the chance to renew rivalry with Cardiff for the first league meeting since 1999 whilst acquaintances will be renewed with Bristol City after a season apart.
It was April 1999 when the Swans last played at Ninian Park – a 0-0 draw was added to a last minute Matthew Bound goal at the Vetch to give the Swans four points from six available from Cardiff that season. No side has ever done the double in the league.
Whilst two seasons back both games between the Swans and Bristol City ended 0-0, the last game being at Ashton Gate.
And for the first time in any recent memory all three sides find themselves in the same division next season with the Swans games against both sides certain to be bubble trips meaning changes to whatever the fixture lists announce. The tradition of Boxing Day and Easter Monday against Cardiff are long since forgotten as fans will be asked to travel only on official coaches to the games with around 2000 from both Swansea and Cardiff expected at the respective fixtures.
Bristol City has become a bubble trip in recent seasons and will remain to be so in the Championship – the only consolation for the Swans is there is a very good chance of Cardiff games and at least one of the Bristol City games getting live TV coverage.
We shall find out….
