The masters series has proved one of the most popular summer events of recent years as a host of regional events culminate in a grand final later on in the year. And this time, for the first time, they have elected to come down to Cardiff where former stars of South Wales and Bristol will compete to be crowned South West champions and move onto that final event.
Representing the Swans will be Roger Freestone, Andy Melville, Simon Davey, Johns Cornforth, Hodge and Ford, Kawme Ampadu and Steve Jones and the competition will be held at Planet Ice in Cardiff Bay and screened on Sky Sports.
Winter, the referee with always much to say, will take charge of the competition and he explained why they have elected to come down this way “I remember refereeing Cardiff City at Bristol City in the play-off semi final a few years ago and that was a fantastic atmosphere, It was so passionate. Hopefully they can recreate that in the Masters on Sunday." he told Wales Online
“Now football is on a massive boom in the South West after Cardiff City’s excellent season, Swansea getting to the Championship and Bristol City getting so close to the Premiership. Bristol Rovers got promoted last season too.
“This is why the Masters wanted to start up in the area for the first time.
“It would be good to see at least one of those teams get to the Premier League next year.
“The beauty of the Masters is that it is always played in a real family atmosphere but is also ultra-competitive and the fans love it.
“Some of the players have not long finished playing or are still playing at some level.
“I know all about the history between Cardiff City and Swansea City and the two Bristol clubs – so I know it’s going to be tough."
