Martinez leads his Swansea side into their first Championship fixture for 24 years at the Valley on Saturday and admits now that the excitement has got to him and he cannot wait to get the action underway.

He told BBC Sport "We can't wait.  "The excitement is taking over everyone and in a way we can't wait to get Saturday underway.

"When you are promoted to a new level, the quicker you adapt to it, the better, then the results will follow.

"Charlton will be a huge test and it's clear that if you switch off you are going to get heavily punished.

"The Valley is a very tough place to go, but in a way it's perfect because we are going to be pushed to our maximum."

Martinez was also hopeful that Jason Scotland would be ready to face some competitive action, adding "I'm sure he will be available on Saturday

"We are trying to get as many players available for selection."
