Orlandi was perhaps the surprise omission from the side that played at Charlton on the opening day of the season especially as he had put in some impressive performances pre season.
And he revealed that the disappointment had led to his attitude not being the best as a result.
But some choice motivational words from Roberto have changed all that and Orlandi says he is now back on track.
He told tonight's Evening Post "To be out of the Charlton game was frustrating, my attitude was maybe not the right one after that because I was really down.
"I played for the reserves and didn't do well and my head was down.
"Maybe that's why I didn't play against Nottingham Forest, but after the Plymouth game I trained very hard and was really focused.
"One week I was close to playing in the first team and then I wasn't in the squad. I wasn't sure why that was, so I spoke to Roberto and he made me understand the reasons and now I am doing my best to get in the team.
"For me Tuesday night was a special feeling because it was an opportunity to show what I can do," he said.
"When you have the chance to play you have to take it because we have strong competition here.
"I really enjoyed it, especially the second half, because we really got at them and controlled the game.
"Playing a full 120 minutes was a big achievement for me because I haven't played that much, but it will help my fitness a lot.
"We are very happy to be in the next round because I don't think the club has reached the third round of the League Cup for 26 years."
