The two managers were speaking on a day when they both did battle with a Sheffield club and both came away with a point from their encounters.
They will come face to face for the first time on September 23 when the two sides meet at the Liberty in the third round of the Carling Cup – the first time the two sides have done battle in an English competition for nine years.
However, it will be the first of at least three meetings this season and has naturally excited the fans with the passion created by a derby match generally not bettered in too many places.
Speaking after the draw, Roberto said "I understand what this game means to the fans, it will be a special game for them.
"It's important the fans behave themselves and there is no trouble. Everyone should remember it's a football game.
"Thing's shouldn't go any further than that. Both sets of fans should respect one another and enjoy what will be a huge football occasion.
"There will be a lot of youngsters at the game who have never been to a Swansea-Cardiff game so people should set an example for the future. It's the third round of the Carling Cup and it's special to be there.
"We'll treat the game the way the fans will want us to treat it. We'll be looking to win and get into the next round.
"I know what Cardiff means to our fans. THey would rather us win that one and lose the three games around it."
Roberto's counterpart, Dave Jones said "It's a derby. It will be a great game as long as everyone behaves themselves.
"But we have got other games coming up before then which we have got to concentrate on.
"That is what stood us in such good stead last year, not focussing on the games coming up in a few weeks but on the next one.
"We have got a little break now with the internationals and I will be hoping my players come back fully fit. Then we have got a game against Bristol City to really concentrate on.
"We have got a great run going. There is a great buzz about the place and our unbeaten record will last another couple of weeks now."
