Heaton – on a season's long loan from Manchester United – says that he understands the intensity of the rivalry and knew all about it even before he headed to South Wales from Old Trafford.

An ever present in Cardiff's unbeaten start to their season, Heaton has made an immediate impact at Ninian Park and he hopes to keep that going after the international break and most certainly against Swansea at the Liberty.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Heaton said “I knew what it (the rivalry) meant before I came down here

“But I’m really starting to realise the stature of it now.

“I understand the rivalry and the passion involved. It would hard to miss it, to be honest.

“It’s a topic of conversation for everyone in the city, including the players. It’s ironic, isn’t it? I understand the two clubs haven’t met for several years now, and, all of a sudden, it’s going to be three times in one season.”

“I’m sure it’s going to be a great game – and a great game to win.”
