“My Record Is Pretty Good With Penalties”

On loan from Coventry City, he managed something in his first 90 minutes that has so far eluded Dorus De Vries in his Swansea career – to stop a penalty.

His dive to the right denied Paul Heffernan and earned the Swans a point in a disappointing display at Doncaster – a point that cemented their place in the Championship Top 10.

Dimi has already earned praise from Roberto for his performance and he revealed in the Evening Post that he has a good record as far as spot kicks are concerned

“My record is pretty good with penalties โ€” I saved four out of six in one season at Hartlepool โ€” so I guess that’s my speciality,” Konstantopoulos said.

“But there’s no secret to it. The instructions I had for the penalty were for Brian Stock, who had gone off, so I was trying to check the name on Paul Heffernan’s shirt before he took it.Click here!

“I had not seen him take a penalty before but from the shape he was in as he took the penalty I thought he was going to blast it.

“Usually, if they are right-footed and they are blasting it, it goes to your right.

“It was the last few minutes of the game and players don’t usually try to place penalties when they come that late on. They usually try to put power behind them and luckily I guessed the right way.

“It’s the best feeling for a goalkeeper to save a penalty and keep a clean sheet and it’s nice for me to be back out there playing again,” he added.

“The lads in front of me battled hard in what wasn’t really our style of game. It wasn’t a great game but overall we have to be pleased with a point away from home.”

“The lads took me in straightaway, there are no big-timers here and I’ve adapted to the club easily. But we will have to wait and see whether I will stay here longer than a month.

“At the moment things are positive, but it’s still early for me here and I’m taking things one step at a time.”
