The tightness of the Championship could mean that the Swans go into Sunday’s game in the bottom half of the table and looking for a win to push them back to the edge of the play off chasing pack.
A third of the way into the season just three points seperate QPR in 7th place from 16th place Sheffield Wednesday with the Swans lodged nicely in the middle of that pack.ย ย A win for QPR tomorrow will also propel them level in points with the last play off place as the division lives up to it’s reputation as the hardest one around.
But Britton is not worried about where the Swans will sit tomorrow evening as they prepare for a double header against Watford that could also see them advance to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup.
Speaking with the Western Mail, the Swans midfielder said โItโs a bit bizarre at the moment, the division is so tight that sides can shoot up or drop quite a few places with one game.
โItโs the same this weekend for us with us not playing โ it normally disappears after the first few weeks of the season normally but, at the moment, thereโs not a lot of room for error.
โBut, having said that, weโre quite confident we can push on up on Sunday after everyone else has played on Saturday.
โAnd weโre certainly not at a stage where weโre looking at the table thinking what position we can get because we havenโt forgotten weโre still the new boys in the division and we can only look at the game in front of us.
โWhen you first get into a new division youโre a bit cagey about games because itโs a little bit of a step into the unknown
โBut weโve seen a good deal of whatโs here in this division over the last few months now and we believe we should be here and should be doing well and that we can beat the so-called bigger teams.
โBut that still doesnโt mean weโre looking at the table and looking at how many points we need to move up yet. Perhaps itโs not until the halfway point that the table even becomes relevant and itโs later still that you start looking at it and thinking what you can achieve.”
Watford arrive at the Liberty for their first games following the sacking of Aidy Boothroyd and earlier in the week Roberto said that worked against rather than for Swansea – something that Leon tends to agree with โIโve been there myself with the manager going and where players are desperate to impress and fighting for their future
โItโs far from great timing for us because teams always seem to have a rise in results when a new manager comes in โ hopefully they wonโt appoint a new one before Sunday!
โBut weโve had a good break and we can look forward to a bit of a strange situation where we play the same side twice in such a short space of time.
โIโm not sure what the manager is planning whether heโs going to change it around because you can never read him.
โBut the cup game is a big game because to get the chance to get to the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup doesnโt come up too many times in your career and it would be a huge achievement.
โBut weโll start thinking about that after Sunday.โ
