The arrival of Stephen O’Halloran on loan from Aston Villa has given the Swans a second option at left back following the injury that looks set to sideline Marcos Painter for the remainder of the season.
O’Halloran is in the squad for the league clash with Watford on Sunday but as yet Roberto has not shown his hand as to whether he will bring him in ahead of Bessone who has started the two games since Painter’s injury.
But it is clear Martinez thinks he has pulled off another master stroke in his transfer dealings as he told the Evening Post “Stephen is a very exciting player
“He is only 20, yet he has already played international football, which tells you something about what people think of him.
“He is an open character who has already settled in with the boys โ he ticks all the boxes.
“We have signed him at a very good moment, too, because he is desperate to play and he hasn’t been damaged by the first third of the season. He is fresh and ready for the challenge.
“Stephen has played a few reserve games, but we’re working hard to get his intensity right
“The player would have a big say on that and so would Aston Villa, where Stephen is highly regarded
“We are delighted to have him here because we have been following him for 10 or 11 months and he fits all the criteria at our football club. But for now we should enjoy having him here and make sure Stephen enjoys his football.
“We will then assess things at the end of his loan period.”
