Swansea 3 Watford 1: The Malky Bar Kid

MacKay told the official Watford website:

“It was a straight ball down the middle and I don’t want to be conceding goals like that. The players will be disappointed with the second goal.

“Once again we’re making individual errors and I think the second goal was a goal we could have stopped. Up until then it was fairly even.

“After that we’ve got to get ourselves back into the game and Swansea keep the ball very well. I’d have loved to have made their ‘keeper make a few more saves, but I can’t criticise the effort and energy today.

“The last goal came because we were pushing on so much. I wasn’t going to sit and just lose 2-1, that’s why we pushed people on.

“I think it was a fairly tight first half and we had some chances early on. We knew the passing game that Swansea were going to play and I wanted us to press them and take the game to them, which I think at times we did.

“It was a fantastic strike,” he added reflecting on Bodde’s equaliser “but it doesn’t help not having a lead for longer. It happened in a flash and until I’ve seen it again I’m not going to put any blame on anyone.

“Positives I can take are that the lads are giving everything that they’ve got, they’ve got a lot of effort and a lot of energy when they’re attacking.

“We’ve given them the license and freedom to go and attack teams and I think, at times, they did that.

“We’re staying over in Swansea, and although my sole focus up to now has been on today’s game, tonight we’ll turn to Tuesday.

“I am bothered about the Carling Cup, especially in the position I am in at the Club at the moment, and the position of the Club.

“I think it’s important that we get to the next round so I definitely am bothered about the Carling Cup. It’s a game I want to win.”
