The Swansea City captain said after the game "We came here and expected to win but we did not play well enough individually and collectively to collect the points
"The performance in the second half was much better because we did not match Southampton in the first.
"Southampton are scrapping to stay in this league and there were some physical tackles that we did not adapt to until the second half.
"The important thing is we are still 14 games unbeaten but it did not feel like that going into the dressing room after the game.
"Some of their challenges were a bit stupid and a bit over the top
"But they're in a relegation battle and fighting and scraping for everything, they're not going to tip-toe around us.
"They are going to be putting bodies on the line. They were over-physical and maybe you can stamp it out early on but you don't want to see yellow cards here, there and everywhere.
"The referee dealt well with the majority of them and we've had games this season where teams have been over-physical and a lot of referees haven't done anything so at least the ref did something today – full credit to him for that."
