The Swansea City star says that Wellens spat at him just before half time of yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Doncaster at the Liberty Stadium.
Britton alleges that Wellens did the deed when team mate James Coppinger was on the floor receiving treatment for an injury.
Britton said after the game “Richie Wellens was standing next to be while Coppinger was getting treatment and he said I’d stamped on him.
“I said ‘if I did do that I didn’t mean to’.ย He then said ‘I’ll spit at you, I’ll spit at you’.ย When he was by my side he spat at my face.
“That’s the first time anyone has spat at me and I hope it’s the last time.ย It’s disgusting.
“I’d rather he punched me.ย What he did was the act ofย a coward.
“I think he was trying to provoke a reaction and get me sent off.ย You have to rise above it that’s what I did.
“We won 3-1.ย I’bve got three points and he’s gone home with nothing.”
