Roberto’s Strong Words For Team

The Swansea City and Wales defender revealed that Roberto was none too happy with the display at Derby and he also promised that it would be a different Swansea City side that is seen on Saturday when they return to the East Midlands to take on Nottingham Forest.

Williams told the Western Mail “There were a few strong words from the manager

“But we’re all men and we had to take it and we probably needed it.

“We were shaky as a unit, there’s no denying that, and, as a team, we could have done better defensively.

“And, whether it comes down to the back four, or even just the two centre-backs, it has to be better and we must deal with that ourselves.

“Derby were pretty simple and there’s no excuses when it’s that predictable.

“As a team we’ve got a lot of talent and are capable of some brilliant things, but when it gets ugly we have to be able to do the basics right first.

“And when there’s not many games left there’s no time for messing around.

“We want to perform well individually and as a team but if it is going to be a poor night we still need to win these games.

“So if teams are going to come at us with simple football we have to do the tough stuff and the simple things right. That’s what we didn’t do at Derby.

“We weren’t solid enough together,” admitted Williams when questioned over his partnership with Albert Serran who is in for the injured Garry Monk at the moment. “We’ve played together a few times, but it didn’t work well at Derby for whatever reason.

“But it can work, no doubt about that, and we have a few days to put it right.

“Let’s be honest, Rob Hulse is a decent target man and a decent player and teams will play to their strengths.

“But, if we know that’s what’s going to be thrown at us, then we have to be better.

“Still, we are hard on ourselves and we were disappointed at Derby despite the point.

“It hurts because I take a lot of pride in the defence. The team play some great stuff, but, as a defender, you want to see the defensive unit do well and I wasn’t happy with what we did at Derby.

“It hurts, but we still took the point and we are good enough to make up for the performance.

“After Derby, I can promise you will see a different Swansea side from the start on Saturday

“We have to start brighter and be tougher.”
