Doncaster Rovers were surprised that midfielder Richie Wellens has been charged by the FA over the alleged spitting episode, during the Swansea City game at the Liberty Stadium in February.
Richie refutes the charge and he will defend the claim backed 100% by the Club.
Chief Executive Dave Morris said: " We are surprised and shocked by the charge brought by the FA, as it is only backed by the testimony of Leon Britton with little or no supporting evidence. The Club will fully support Richie in his defence of this charge."
Doncaster Rovers Football Club will be making no further comment on the matter at this time.
