The paper has reported that the 39 year old has asked the board at Bramall Lane to extend his stay at the club, to continue his development as a coach. The Telegraph also claims that a source inside the club has indicated that Speed is enjoying his current position and it keen to stay.

Having completed his coaching badges, the midfielder still has 12 months to run on his contract with the Blades but United boss Kevin Blackwell has revealed that he would not stand in his way should he decide to return to Wales, he told the Yorkshire Post, “We would never deny anyone an opportunity to further their career – and, if Gary feels that this would, we won't stand in his way.”

Confirming that the former Welsh international has yet to speak to Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins, the 50 year old has stressed the importance that Speed has no regrets over his decision, “He may speak to them and decide that he wants to stay with us which would be great news as far as I am concerned. But it is important Gary has no regrets."

However the report also hints that Speed is keeping his options open
