Agreeing to contract terms offered by Wigan, Roberto Martinez was due to be unveiled as the new manager at the JJB Stadium last Thursday. Instead a stunned press corps were told by Latics chief executive Brenda Spencer that the deal to bring the Spaniard back to Greater Manchester was delayed due to a dispute over compensation for the back room staff at the Liberty Stadium.

Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan in reaction to the compensation demanded by his counterpart Huw Jernkins, was in little doubt that the club would not remunerate the Swans for the loss of assistant manager Graham Jones , chief scout Kevin Reeves , goalkeeping coach Inaki Bergara and masseur Oscar Brau.

Angrily reacting to Whelan's stance, Jenkins called his remarks “disrespectful” and has fiercely pursued compensation for staff at the club. However despite fee's being agreed Jenkins is not happy with the final outcome as he outlined in the club's official statement, he said “I don't think either club are totally happy with the final compensation figure agreed for the back room staff.”

"But I think both clubs realise that this matter now needs to be concluded so that we can all move on and prepare for the new season.”

Refusing to look back, Jenkins has remained upbeat and determined to take the club forward and has signalled his intent on making sure that the club, start the new season with the same vigour and style shown throughout last season , he added, “The new fixture list is out on Wednesday and we are determined to be ready for the new Championship campaign when it kicks-off on August 8.We are also determined to start the campaign strongly and keep Swansea City moving forward as a football club.''
