In the last few years, Jenkins has moved to make sure that new contract talks would be started in good time but this new approach goes against that deep rooted approach. There is little to suggest that new deals will not be offered to club veterans, Leon Britton, Garry Monk and Alan Tate all of whom see their contracts expire in twelve months time.
Wingers Mark Gower and Tom Bulter also face an agonising wait to see if they are to be offered a new contract. Assessing the squad, Paulo Sousa has been encouraged not to rush into making decisions over the long term futures of a host of Swansea players as Jenkins outlined to he SWEP, he said, “ We are obviously aware that certain players have only got one more year to run on their current contracts.”
“Right now we are not talking about new deals. We have recently appointed a new manager and he needs to have some time to himself.”
Should deals not be forthcoming, Swansea face losing players on free transfers.
