Williams will play against both Finland and Liechenstein with Wales having a chance still of finishing in third place in the group – an achievement that would improve their seeding when the Euro qualifying draw is made.

But the Swansea defender believes that Wales can qualify for the tournament providing that they have no more retirements having lost four in the past twelve months and an incredible seventeen in the five years since Mark Hughes left the position as manager.

Speaking to the News Of The World, Williams said “I really believe we can have a good crack at it.

“I just hope there are no more retirements and the groyp we’ve got stays together.   We’ve lost four players in the past year which is a lot for a small country like ours.   We need to keep all the players we’ve got especially the ones playing in the Premier League.

“When everyone’s fit we’ve got a good blend of youth and experience.  I genuinely feel we can do somehting in the next campaign if we stay together.

“This campaign has been disappointing but I feel we’re getting closer and closer.  We did well out in Germany and Russia, that shows we’re improving.”

Both Craig Bellamy and Simon Davies are showing no signs of bringing down the curtain on their international career, something which pleases Williams “That’s given us a big boost.

“They’re probably the first two names on the gaffer’s teamsheer and the young lads in the squad can learn so much from them.

“When you go away with your country it can be hard because you’ve got to leave your family for a long time.   If you’ve got children like Jason (Koumas) has it’s tough so I can see why some people do decide to retire.

“Personally I ccan’t see myself ending my international cereer early but everyone’s different.

“We still want to finish third in the group so the last two games are massive.”
