Britton: The Signs Are Good

The Swansea City midfielder will line up in the centre of the park again today with Blackpool the visitors to the Liberty Stadium.

A midweek victory over leaders West Brom has lifted the home side into the top half of the table and a further victory could lift them to the edge of the play off positions – quote a transformation from the side that was criticsed at the start of the season.

And Britton puts some of that down to the reformation of the midfield that bought so many plaudits las season as he told the Western Mail โ€œMaybe the midfield havenโ€™t performed as well as we can do

โ€œThe defence has been brilliant keeping clean sheets โ€“ although weโ€™ve defended well as a team โ€“ and people have understood the difficulty weโ€™ve had up front with new players coming in.

โ€œThe midfield did very well last year and perhaps weโ€™ve come under focus and in for a bit of criticism because we havenโ€™t been at our best.

โ€œItโ€™s been difficult. Weโ€™ve not had a settled midfield because of injuries, suspensions, so itโ€™s been tough getting that understanding.

โ€œBut the signs have been there in the last few games that weโ€™re keeping the ball well again and taking control of games.

โ€œItโ€™s a similar role to last year, if a little more defensive,โ€ explained Britton.

โ€œItโ€™s about screening the back four but getting the ball rolling.

โ€œI donโ€™t mind that, I enjoy it โ€“ itโ€™s not as if Iโ€™ve been a prolific goalscorer. And I can get on the ball more which I feel comfortable doing.

โ€œBut we have different players for different roles for different games and the options we have had show the strength is coming back.

โ€œWe have struggled with players missing and, although it looked like we were getting Ferrie Bodde back at one point and Joe came back, injuries hit again.

โ€œBut weโ€™re looking much more settled now and people like Joe and Prats coming back show that.”
