Paulo Sousa broke the Swansea City transfer record for the second time in his spell as manager and the new man Cotterill could not be happier as he told the Evening Post soon after completing the deal to bring him to South Wales from Sheffield United
“The move to Wigan came at a young age, there was a big price tag over my head and I felt I had to impress,” said the 22-year-old.
“I’ve coped with things like that and been in the Premiership.
“I’ve dealt with big things, so I’m not really worried about the transfer fee.
“I just need to concentrate on my football and not everything else surrounding it.
“When I first went to Wigan I was in the team and doing really well, but I lost my way a little bit.
“Things like that happen. Sometimes you go to the Premiership and you have to come down to go back up.
“My wife and my little boy are back home, which helps, and if they’re happy, I’m happy as well,” he said.
“Everything’s relaxed back home and hopefully that will help my game.
“Four clubs at 22 is a lot. Hopefully I can stay here now a good while and help this team move on.
“There’s no reason why we can’t finish in the top six this season.
“When you look at Burnley, I don’t see them as a bigger club than Swansea, and they got promoted last year
“We’re the best footballing team in the Championship so hopefully we can keep working hard for each other and then anything’s possible.
“Everyone’s realistic and knows it’s a tough league. We just have to take every game as it comes, try to win each game and try to make it into the top six.
“I hope to get seven by the end of the season. I think that’s realistic for a winger, and if I can do that I’ll be pleased,” he said.
“Hopefully I can get in the starting XI, get a few more goals and kick on now.
“The first time I came down here, I watched the game against Derby and everyone was so friendly.
“Welsh people are very friendly, but when you’re from Cardiff you think that the Swansea people might not be very nice!
“But I’ve told everyone that Swansea people are very nice and I’m enjoying my time so far.”
