The Swansea City midfielder was speaking ahead of Sunday's game where the Swans need to win and hope that Blackpool fail to do just that at home to Bristol City.

The Swans dropped out of the top six for the first time in six months last weekend at Sheffield United and Gower insists that takes the pressure off them ahead of Sunday's visit of Doncaster Rovers to the Liberty.

He told the Western Mail “The last few weeks people have been tipping us to fall apart and be the team to drop out, and now a few people are saying, ‘I told you so

“People think we have blown our chance, but there is still a possibility. We are not asking for too much, if Blackpool draw and we win then we go up. So it’s far from over.

“The ball is in Blackpool’s court so let’s see how they handle the pressure. We’ve just got to take care of ourselves.

“We are very positive at home, we’ve won our last two games there. Our goal-scoring problems have been well documented, but we’ve scored six in our last two home games.

“We’ve got to be very positive and make sure we win our game, if we don’t, we can’t make it, so that’s the most important thing to do.

“Bristol City are a good side and we found that out a few weeks ago, they are a tough side to play against.

“They’ve got some great pace up front and some big men at the back so Blackpool will definitely have a tough game on Sunday, even though Bristol have nothing to play for.

“The new manager has come in and before that the caretaker boss was doing very well, so if anyone thinks they are just going to roll over they are wrong.

“But we have to take care of our game first, Doncaster are a very good side and have established themselves as a Championship side so we are going to have to beat them before we worry about the Blackpool result.

“The Championship is a big league and there are some top clubs here, but the Premiership is where everyone wants to be.

“I’m no different from everyone else, but I am coming to the later stages of my career and to get a chance at the Premier League would be a dream come true. At this present time I would think going up this year is probably the best chance that I’ve got.

“There are players at this club who can – and should – be playing at a higher level and hopefully that will be with Swansea because they deserve to play there.

“It’s going to be a tough ask to keep this squad together next year if Swansea don’t make the play-offs. We’ve come so far since last summer when the whole backroom staff were ripped out, a couple of real good players left us and a lot of people feared the worst.

“To be guaranteed to finish the season in a higher position than we did last year is a huge credit to everyone at the club.

“To make the play-offs would top it off nicely and if we did get there we’ve got more of a chance of keeping hold of our best players.”
