The Swansea City vice captain – still recovering from his operation – has seen no new faces arrive at the Liberty a month after the season ended with a 0-0 draw against Doncaster.

The Swans have been linked to a few players and there is still speculation that some top performers will leave but nothing of major interest has happened leaving many fans frustrated and wondering what the next two months will bring.

But Tate does not share that frustration and told the Evening Post "As soon as the season ends, people start saying we are signing him or him, but it's always quiet at this time of year

"Maybe things can be agreed in the background, but you can't sign players who are going to be on free transfers because their contracts don't finish until the end of June.

"Then there is the fact that every footballer goes away at this time

"Players are on holiday through May and June, and it's only when they are back for pre-season that things really start to happen.

"Managers are back at their desks by then too, and that's when they will start talking to each other.

"I think things will pick up in July and August as the deadline starts to get close

"We made most of our signings in August last year and I don't expect it to be different this time around.

"Players nearly always want to keep their options open until the last minute, and I think August will be the busiest time for every club this year.

"More goals is the first thing people are going to look at because of what happened last season.

"We need to improve our goalscoring record and obviously people are going to talk about forwards.

"But it's about goals from midfield, too. If you've got a midfielder chipping in with ten or 15 goals, it makes a massive difference."
