Rodgers saw his side’s away day blues continue with a ninth successive league trip without a win but it was the nature of the performance rather than the result that was the focus of Rodger’s after match comments
“We’ve taken a lot of positives from our away games, even if we haven’t had the results. But this was disappointing.” he told the Western Mail
“It’s the first time we’ve not looked like having penetration and I’m disappointed with the goals we’ve conceded.
“The first was a long punt up the pitch and we’ve given a referee a decision to make when we shouldn’t have been in that position.
“Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don’t, but we should have dealt with it before that.
“The third goal was just a punt up the pitch where we’ve missed two headers and they’ve scored.
“I’m not sure why there was a drop in performance levels but I felt from the off that we lacked that normal spark and the two late pull-outs – who have been influential – didn’t help.
“But I told the group before the game I still expect us to go away from home and have the possibility to win.
“We didn’t arrive to play as we did and I hoped this was going to be a day when we took another step forward because we have been developing as a group.
“We’ve been fantastic at home and we have to match that away and be stronger.
“It’s the first game since I’ve been in charge where we’ve not hit the heights as I would like, so we need to regroup and put this right away from home on Tuesday.
“And if we keep working hard and digging deep it will come.”
