Monk Frustration At Suspension

The Swansea City captasin will be forced to sit out Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace after picking up his 5th booking of the season in Tuesday’s defeat to Wigan in the Carling Cup.

But he believes that the card – along with 2 more of his 5 yellows – was not deserved as he explained to the Western Mail โ€œThe lad was laughing on the floor after I was supposed to have fouled him

โ€œI asked him why he dived and he said sorry and that he didnโ€™t mean to get me booked.

โ€œWhat does the referee want me to do? I didnโ€™t touch him or try to play the ball.

โ€œItโ€™s disappointing. I was angry because I tried to avoid the booking.

โ€œSometimes referees are not brave enough to give those decisions against Premier clubs.

โ€œIโ€™m not blaming the ref for the loss, but he seemed to want to give them a foul every two seconds.

โ€œBut I guess thatโ€™s what happens when a referee is in charge of a Premier League side against lower-league opposition. They donโ€™t want to offend the Premier League players.

โ€œIโ€™ve been unlucky this season. Two out of the five are probably deserved but Iโ€™ve been really unlucky with the others.

โ€œThankfully itโ€™s only one game and the matches are coming so quickly it will be out of the way by Saturday and I will be back for the Cardiff game.โ€

Monk also believes that the Swans can be proud after their defeat which was watched by a hugely impressive travelling army of 4,500 supporters

โ€œWe can hold our heads up high.

โ€œWe had great travelling support, it was just a shame we didnโ€™t get them the result they wanted.

โ€œRobertoโ€™s line-up was very strong and that is credit to us.

โ€œI thought we started really well and the goal that was disallowed looked a bit debatable, you need to get those kind of breaks.

โ€œSince the start of the season when we had a couple of away defeats weโ€™ve learnt from that and grown in confidence and we look very decent on the road.

โ€œThe league is our main priority. We have to use this as motivation to really fight for those top spots.โ€
