For half an hour the Swans were outstanding against a side that just six months ago was a Premier League side playing inaย Cup Final.
But Pompey hit back and two goals gave them the victory that they deserved on the night leaving Brendan at the end with no complaints about the result.
“We didn’t capitalise on the first 25 minutes when we were outstanding,” he told Swans Player. “We scored one but could have had a couple more.
“Then we didn’t defend well for their goals. They were two mistakes, which was unlike us.
“We started quickly and passed the ball well. But then Portsmouth used their experience and slowed the game down and broke it up – which they are entitled to do. Then in the second-half we weren’t on our usual game; we weren’t good on the ball.
“But there’s hell of a long way to go between now and the end of the season. We’ve got to be patient and the fans have got to be patient.
“They turned up in their numbers tonight and were fantastic. I’m sorry we couldn’t send them away with a victory.
“The players are disappointed with the result as well. But I said to them afterwards that it is credit to them that a team that has just come down from the Premier League, with big players, see it as a big win.
“The players gave their best, but tonight their best wasn’t good enough. This group has proved they are good at bouncing back though – and we will.”
