Gower – We Were Due A Big Decision

The Swansea City midfielder was the man at the heart of the ‘foul’ on Carlos Edwards on Saturday when Andy D’Urso waved play on after the two players made contact in the penalty area.

Edwards and most of Portman Road believed it was a penalty but D’Urso waved play on and just seconds later Craig Beattie was putting the seal on a Swans victory that moved them to within one point of second place.

I couldn’t get out of the way and he (Edwards) came across me,” Gower told the Evening Post. “I went back to get inside him but there’s no reason for him to go down.

“I did think for a split second to tug him back, but as he was in the box I decided against it.

“He could have stayed on his feet and stick it in the net. You’d have to ask him why he didn’t stay on his feet.

“There wasn’t that much contact for him to go down but he chose to do that and he put it in the hands of the ref.

“Fortunately for us, he didn’t give it.

“But I couldn’t have complained if he had because of the angle the ref had and he (Edwards) made it look as though I hit him hard.

“We’ve had some terrible decisions go against us since I’ve been here,” said Gower. “It’s been quite disheartening because sometimes you really need them to go for you as the teams around you always seem to get them.

“We were due a big decision like this for the past two years and you see the difference it makes in a game.

“It’s nice to be on the end of one that goes our way and celebrate a win rather than seeing the possibility of victory snatched away from us.”
