Emnes spent a period on loan at Swansea City earlier in the season and Brendan Rodgers did at the time want to resign him for longer but a change in management at Middlesbrough seems to have put pay to those chances.

Emnes played for Boro on Saturday in their win over Swans’ local rivals Cardiff City and when questioned after the game of the chances of him returning, Tony Mowbray said “I don’t think, as we sit here today, there’s any chance of that

“There are financial implications at this football club but Marvin is not a major problem for us in that respect.

“I thought he did very well for us and was a constant threat, even though he’s been coughing and spluttering all week and was in the toilet after the match looking very ill. I hope he’s enjoying the role we’re asking him to play but he’s shown me he can do it up front now and that gives me options.”
