It is starting to become a familiar story for the Swans.ย ย Plenty of possession in many games but never managing to capitalise on that fact and score the goals that they need to win games.
QPR on Boxing Day was no different with the Swans seemingly dominant for twenty minutes (and maybe more) but ended up on the wrong end of a 4-0 defeat.ย ย It follows a pattern set for large parts of last season and also some of these highlighting that plenty of possession is not everything.
“I think we have been here a lot over the past few years,” Williams told the Evening Post. “We had good spells in the QPR game but our main problem from what I can see is that we are on top of teams in every game and we don’t put them away.
“We needed to score at least one against QPR. If we had I don’t think we would have ended up losing the way we did. As a team we have all got to be a bit more creative and inventive. We have got to score goals in the important moments of games.
“Other teams sometimes seem to need one chance and it’s in,” Williams went on. “And the worrying thing for us at the moment is that we are not really creating chances.
“We are not missing chances because they are not coming, so we all have to work hard on that.
“We were definitely the better team for a long time at QPR. We had all the possession, but the penalty they got changed things.
“We need to get back to playing the way we were earlier in the season. We have to move the ball quickly โ our passing is too slow at the moment and we’re taking too many touches.
“We need to try things and, if they don’t come off, that is not a problem. We have to be more inventive.”
