The Swansea City captain scored the opening goal in yesterday’s 4-0 rout of Colchester at the Liberty Stadium but almost immediately suffered the injury that will keep him out of action until April.
The club confirmed this afternoon that Monk ruptured medial ligament damages during the game, not the cruciate ligament damage that it was initially feared may be the case.
“It’s a lot better than we expected,” admitted Swans head physio Kate Rees via the Swans official web site. “Our initial fear was that his cruciate ligament had gone again.
“That would have ruled him out for the rest of the season and up to nine months. But there is no damage to his old injury and the worst scenario is a three-month rehabilitation process.
“But Garry is a player who has always worked hard on his rehab in the past and if anyone can get back quicker then it will be him.”
